AWARDS & RECOGNITIONS

On October 4th, 2018, the American Planning Association’s  New York Upstate Chapter recognized the Village of Lakewood with its 2018 Award for Comprehensive Planning. The plan was adopted by the Lakewood Board of Trustees on January 9, 2017 and is honored to receive this prestigious award.

The village’s consultant during the planning process was Eve Holberg, then of Peter J. Smith & Company and now with LaBella Associates. Deputy Mayor, Ted McCague travelled to Ithaca to receive the award on behalf of the village.

In 2016 Buffalo Business First announced their Top 50 Quality-of-Life standings for Western New York cities and villages (2016). Over 59 western New York cities and villages were ranked on a Business First’s 50-part quality of life formula. Lakewood placed 5th on the list. For more information – Read more…

On October 14, 2016, the Village of Lakewood was recognized for its Complete Streets Initiative with the second annual Spotlight on Population Health (SOPHI) award. The award acknowledges the efforts municipalities or organizations have taken to make their communities healthier by creating a safe environment for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists. The Village of Lakewood was one of thirty-nine nominees from across Western New York and was nominated for implementing its Complete Streets Program.
