Lakewood and Lake Chautauqua were made for recreation. From sailing, rowing, and kayaking on Lake Chautauqua to tennis, basketball, baseball, golf, cycling, running, and fishing to just lazing in the sun at the beach. You can do it all in Lakewood. We even have a Pickleball court! Don’t forget the Frisbee!
Summer concerts at Hartley Park are a welcome break in the lazy summer routine. Pack a picnic basket or hit the food truck then just sit back and enjoy the tunes under the setting summer sun! And the kids get their own concert too! Every summer to end the concert series a special concert is given just for the kids!
The annual 4th of July Celebration features the Lakewood Y Firecracker 10 K and 2 Mile Run/Walk. Race starts a day of celebration on the Richard Hartley Park that concludes with a spectacular fireworks display.
In the winter, the Western New York ski resorts are second to none and all of them are just a short drive from Lakewood. Cross country skiing and snowmobiling are popular winter sports, along with ice hockey in Jamestown.
Cycling in Chautauqua County is growing each year! The Chautauqua Gran Fondo is a community event designed to promote health and well being for cyclists of all skill levels while raising funds for local non-profit organizations.
The County also has 11 Bike Routes mapped for riders to enjoy.
Another great chance to enjoy the Lake is the Dragon Boat Race. This year’s race is scheduled for August at Lucille Ball Memorial Park in Celoron. Just a short walk or drive from Lakewood. Each year nearly 30 boats comprised of teams from local sponsors, community groups and several experienced clubs from Pittsburgh, Ithaca and Buffalo compete. Last year’s event was an overwhelming success, almost doubling the number of participating teams from the inaugural race in 2016. The dragons are back on Chautauqua Lake. The third annual Dragon Boat Race is scheduled for August 11, 2018 at Lucille Ball Memorial Park in Celoron, NY!
